What day is it today?

A few days ago it happened. I to asked myself, what day is it today?... And I couldn't remember! Wow, does this mean I'm truly relaxing or do I just have a dreadful memory? I decided not to mention this to Ruth as she was sure to conclude it was the result of the latter of my two conclusions! So I elected to engage in a little 'research' and discovered it was Wednesday. Armed with this information I was then delighted when later in the day Ruth ask me... "what day is it today"? I chuckled to myself as initially she pondered and then seemed so certain it was Tuesday! I had a temporary moment of triumph as ultimately she had to agree I was right! It was Wednesday!!! So...our time away continues and I can honestly say we both feel very happy. However, early this week I read Psalm 4. As I worked through it and reflected V.7 jumped out... "You have filled my heart with greater joy". Three months off! First week bliss!

Well here I am, it's Monday morning and I'm not at work. My lovely wife, Ruth has given me breakfast in bed again, porridge with fruit, toast and a mug of hot water. Life is bliss! So what's this all about? Somehow I've got three months off and I'm one week in after 42 years of working without a break (apart from the usual holidays). About a year ago Ruth was diagnosed with breast cancer, our son, John, was suffering with trigeminal neuralgia and my church was in vacancy (from 2nd April 2017). I was working full time as the Stewardship Adviser for the Diocese of Winchester and at the same time trying to hold the ropes at my church as their Assistant Minister. I'd just helped to make a short movie to help people catch a glimpse of what Christ Church, Chineham is like  http://www.christchurchchineham.org.uk/content/watch-our-video At that time, a year ago, I said to Ruth, "when this is all over we'll go away for a bit".
